Mesa police say they’ve arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of setting fire to a brand new Tesla Cybertruck early Monday morning.
Mesa police did not say if the suspected arson is related to an increase in attacks on dealerships, charging stations and vehicles from Tesla, owned by Trump advisor Elon Musk.
The FBI recently created a unit for coordinating with the ATF to investigate those attacks. And the Justice Department has brought federal charges against several alleged Tesla vandals.
Mesa police say reports of an explosion sent officers to a Tesla dealership near Southern Avenue and Sossamon Road. They found a Cybertruck in flames. Investigators focused on a van nearby. Ian Moses was stopped when he tried to get in.
Police say he looks like the person captured in surveillance photos by Tesla security.
