Gas prices have increased ahead of Memorial Day weekend, when tens of millions of Americans will be on the road. AAA Arizona says prices in the state have risen 9 cents in the past week.
The increase follows higher demand ahead of the holiday weekend and the effects of a recent fire at a California refinery.
“The most expensive gas is in Maricopa County, averaging about $3.63, and Yuma County has the cheapest, at just $2.96," said Julian Paredes, a spokesperson for AAA Arizona.
Prices are expected to continue rising in the coming months, especially in the state’s metro areas that require special summer blends. Paredes says at $3.38, Arizona’s average price is 19 cents higher than the national average.
