If you’re looking for a deal on a rental home, you may need to pay careful attention to avoid getting scammed. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is reminding consumers about the tactics bad actors are using.

The scammers provide fake listings online or copy real ones. Access to others’ personal and banking information gives the scammers the opportunity to steal identities.

Richie Taylor is spokesperson for the attorney general.

“Be skeptical of rental prices that are really well below what other properties are charging, and it is really critically important to look at the property address and then drive by physically to make sure it exists," he said.

Taylor points to other signs of a scam, ranging from upfront fees to sending payments overseas.

Those who believe they may be a victim of fraud can file a consumer complaint on the attorney general’s website.
