Winter sports enthusiasts now have an option here in the desert. What’s being touted as Arizona’s first indoor ski and snowboard facility recently opened its doors in Phoenix.
In a warehouse near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road, Gilly Man uses a snowboard to glide down a steep ramp made of wood and dry ski turf. There’s no ice here.
“We've got a good foot traffic coming in, a lot of skiers and snowboarders think it's so cool to have a place like this. I'm so excited. I get excited every time I come here. I usually end up staying here pretty much all day when I come,” he said.
AZ Snow Zone owner Josh Sinclair opened the facility to help new and even seasoned snowboarders and skiers maximize their time when they make it to the slopes.
The layout includes jumps, rails and other options, including a trampoline for practicing flips.
“I'm trying to make it very easy for learners to, you know, learn on a dime pretty much. And I'm adapting to it. I'll change layouts to whatever is needed,” he said.
Gilly Man is a snowboarder who says people are using the facility.
AZ Snow Zone offers equipment, one-on-one instruction, monthly membership and a drop-in option.
