Some Peoria residents are voicing concerns about the development of a planned semiconductor facility. The City Council unanimously approved a development agreement with Amkor Technology in February 2024.

The 56-acre facility is set to be built off Loop 303 and Lone Mountain Parkway. Residents of that neighborhood — Vistancia — say they’re uneasy about the project due to potential issues ranging from traffic congestion to chemical contamination.

Peoria resident Joel Resnick says they do not want to stop the plant’s progress but seek a better solution.

“We only want what's just for the communities, and we've asked them to have the courage, they being City Council, to have the courage to take a stance and find a way to relocate this plant elsewhere, because we won't get a second chance to get it right,” he said.

Mike Edmiston says he’s for the Amkor Technology project, but not its location.

“The plant cannot go in the Vistancia area, move it out another three or four miles into an area where there is no planned residential growth yet,” he said.

Residents say they will continue to speak out at city council meetings.

Amkor is expected to break ground on the project in September.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been updated to clarify that the planned Amkor facility would be built in the Vistancia neighborhood.
