Valley Metro has relaunched its Share The Ride website and app in hopes of encouraging more people to carpool.
Thousands of people were already using the website before the first update in five years, according to Juliana Vasquez-Keating with Valley Metro.
She said there were over 200 people using the app before it was announced and anticipates that number to be higher in the coming weeks.
“This platform has actually been around for about 10 years or more,” Vasquez-Keating said. “We just try to refresh it every once in a while to get the latest technology.”
Vasquez-Keating said the app offers a multitude of ways to track environmentally conscious efforts.
“It will tell you how much emission you are reducing and how many trees you saved and how much money you saved,” she said. “I think that there are already some really fun things that are integrated.”
Valley Metro has partnered with local and national businesses for Share The Ride’s reward program as an extra incentive to users.
