The catastrophic floods that devastated the city of Globe, also hit the neighboring community of Miami in eastern Arizona. Three local businesses are now in the midst of a massive and costly cleanup.
Miami Art Works, the Lyric Soda Fountain and Thee 23 Skidoo provided artists with a space to show off their art work and perform live music.
But last month’s huge rainstorm caused major damage to all three buildings.
Joanna TwentyThree is the co-founder of Miami Art Works.
“The first day of the storm, there was a microburst that hit the Lyric and Skidoo. The winds were so powerful, they ripped the roof off, And we found it like 50 feet away," she said.
The next day, the rains continued to come down, she says,
“The wash right behind the building of Miami Artworks overflowed and came in through the back door and flooded through the whole gallery and out the front door," she said.
A GoFundMe was started on behalf of TwentyThree. More than $13,000 has been raised so far.
