Arizona Autism, a company that offers pediatric therapy and caregiving services to Arizonans with developmental disabilities, announced a nearly 2,800 employee layoff.

The company's CEO says he wants those employees to remain with the organization as contract workers.

In an unlisted YouTube video, Arizona Autism co-owner Ryker Martin says the organization is restructuring in response to potential changes by the state Division of Developmental Disabilities.

A law passed earlier this year requires the division to implement a new assessment tool, though its implementation is ongoing, and could upend services for many Arizona families.

In the video, Martin says in January, all of their caregivers that provide home and community-based services will be transitioned to contract work.

Arizona Autism did not return calls for comment.
