Fans of the computer and electronics chain Micro Center won’t have to wait much longer for a Phoenix location.

The grand opening is Friday, but some customers were already lined up Wednesday morning for one of the store’s preview events.

Hundreds of people waited outside the 35,000-square-foot building for the VIP Days event, which runs Wednesday and Thursday. Martin was one of the first customers in line. Martin didn’t give his last name but said he had been waiting about 12 hours for a chance to shop at the new store near 44th Street and Thomas Road.

Martin, who lives in Phoenix, says he’s excited for Micro Center because of the void left by Fry’s Electronics, which closed in 2021.

“It’s a big deal, because a lot of people — a lot of tech people, a lot of makers in the Valley, they miss Fry’s,” he said. “And they closed down years ago, and we needed a replacement.”

The grand opening event on Friday will feature live PC builds, vendor booths and giveaways starting at 9 a.m., according to a press release from the company.

Micro Center’s first location opened in Ohio in 1980. With the opening of the Phoenix store, the company will now have 30 locations in more than 20 states, according to its website.
