Despite intense flooding occurring earlier this year, the city of Globe plans to hold Christmas festivities for residents.

Among the events is the 37th Annual Festival of Lights, which comes with vendors, cultural performances and special candles known as luminarias.

Globe had been heavily impacted by flooding which left heavy damage to structures and some deaths.

Mayor Al Gameros says a lighting company plans to contribute to the city.

“Christmas light decorators — they’re gonna come down and install lighting throughout our downtown area. They’re gonna put it up and take it down for us. That’s their gesture for helping us out after the disaster, and that’s at no cost to us,” he said.

Gameros says the events are the city’s road to recovery and encourages others to come and visit.
