If you’re flying out of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport but still haven’t gotten a REAL ID, the Transportation Security Administration has a warning: It’s soon going to cost you.

Starting Feb. 1, the agency will charge a $45 fee to anyone who arrives at security checkpoints without the new ID or another form of acceptable documentation, like a passport.

TSA Arizona spokesperson Daniel Velez said those travelers could also face a long delay.

"There’s gonna be what we call an identification process where you’re gonna have to fill out some paperwork. It could take an average of 10 to 15 minutes, however it could take up to 30 minutes or more. It’s just gonna depend on the individual and how they answer the questions," Velez said.

The U.S. adopted the new REAL I-D requirements in May, after several years of deadline extensions.

The TSA has announced that U.S. air travelers without a REAL ID will face a $45 fee starting in February. The Department of Homeland Security says 94% of passengers are already compliant.
