A Western museum in the town of Wickenburg has changed its name and an expansion project is underway after getting one of the largest gifts made to an arts and cultural organization in state history.

The Desert Caballeros Western Museum is now named the Sigler Western Museum in honor of longtime donors and local couple Carey and Jack Sigler.

The museum has displayed its Western art and Western history collections for more than 50 years. And in 2027 they will have a new addition.

“The new building will be exclusively a museum for the western art. It will have gallery space as well as multipurpose space,” said Dan Finley, executive director of the Museum.

Finley also says thanks to the Siglers' $20 million donation, among other patrons’ gifts, its collections will be split up between two facilities.

“Today we have about 650 pieces of art, and regrettably a lot of that is in storage because we just didn’t have the space to put it out. The new building will become that much expanded space," Finley said.

The museum will be open throughout construction, balancing both collections, with artists such as Frederic Remington and Georgia O’Keefe on display.
