Arizona has some of the highest gas prices in the nation. And in many parts of Maricopa County, the price is already over $5 a gallon.
Patrick De Haan is the head of petroleum analysis for gasbuddly.com. He says on Wednesday, the average gas price in Phoenix was $4.93 a gallon.
“Arizona, the No. 1 increase of any state in the nation, up $1.35 at the statewide level from a month ago,” he said.
De Haan says Arizona’s unique blend of summer gasoline, the closure of a refinery in California, demand in the Phoenix-area and the war with Iran are to blame.
He is, however, optimistic that as the United States and Iran move closer to talks, gas prices could go down in the coming weeks.
Gas prices are on the rise in Arizona. AAA Arizona says on average, a gallon of regular, unleaded gas costs $3.86 today — up more than 50 cents since just last week.
