Diesel prices have hit a new record high in Arizona.
Diesel gas prices rose to $6.20 a gallon on Wednesday, according to AAA Arizona, breaking the previous record of $5.90 set in 2022. A year ago this week, the average price for a gallon of diesel was $3.57.
Patrick De Haan is with Gasbuddy. He says a ceasefire with Iran would not lower prices if the country continues to block the global flow of oil.
"For now though the president and Iran continue to have some back and forth and the real only improvement to gas prices down the road would be an improvement in the Strait of Hormuz," said De Haan.
De Haan says increases in gas prices are beginning to slow down across the state. But unleaded prices continue to climb, hitting an average of $4.96 cents in Maricopa County earlier this week. The national average was $4.16 as of Thursday, according to AAA.
