Harkins Theatres plans to unveil its first 4D movie theater in Arizona this summer.
Unlike traditional 2D cinema, bringing theater into the 4th dimension means incorporating sensory elements, like synchronized motion seating, coordinated scents and environmental cues that go along with the on-screen action.
Harkins plans to debut its first 4D theater in August at the Harkins Norterra in north Phoenix.
Jessica Reeves is the vice president of marketing for the homegrown theater chain.
“We always focus on quality presentation, great storytelling and the ultimate movie going experience. But we always like to do a little something extra for the guest. And we thought it would be really fun to add the 4D element," she said.
The ticket price for this new Harkins movie experience has not yet been announced. Reeves says the theatre chain plans to open at least two additional 4D locations in Arizona.
