Nearly 500 employees at Grand Canyon University could lose their jobs as the institution makes changes to its food service vendor. The workers operate as employees of the food company Sodexo.
The university’s contract with Sodexo expires in mid-July.
GCU says it accepted bids from multiple vendors and ultimately decided on awarding the contract to Aramark, another food services company. The university says Aramark’s bid helps make costs affordable for students.
On Monday, Aramark said it secured a contract with the university to provide campus dining, athletic-related hospitality programs and more.
The university says Aramark has expressed its intent to hire employees from Sodexo working on the GCU campus and already held a meeting with those workers.
