Walmart shoppers in Phoenix could get their purchases delivered by drone starting next year.
Walmart and drone company Wing recently announced Phoenix would be among seven new major metros to get drone delivery service in 2027. It’s currently available in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Atlanta.
Wing drones fly at speeds up to 60 mph and use a tether to lower packages to a customer’s yard or driveway.
Jessie Poole-Strang is a Wing communications manager.
“Like, traffic can be brutal. The heat can be brutal, and drone delivery is a great option for those that either don’t want to or can’t leave the home to do those errands, but maybe take quite a while — especially when you calculate those drive times back and forth," she said.
Poole-Strang says Wing works with community leaders when the company enters a new market and that talks of what a rollout would look like are ongoing.
