An Arizona company’s paint is helping keep soccer fans cool in Houston throughout the World Cup.
The company, EnKoat, has a special cooling paint that acts like an ice pack to reduce temperatures on metal structures. And that’s being used to keep the bleachers cool at the FIFA fan fest in Houston — one of the host sites for the World Cup.
Co-founder Matthew Aguayo says a member of FIFA’s sustainability committee reached out to the company.
“We’re excited to be a part of, you know, something as big as FIFA on a global stage, and that's sort of how that came to fruition," he said.
Aguayo says the company offers a solution to a major environmental issue.
“That extreme heat is part of a bigger problem, which is extreme weather. And ultimately, what we're doing is developing a platform for thermal management across infrastructure," he said.
Aguayo says that infrastructure also extends to buildings, roofs and walls that need to be cooled down.
EnKoat previously used its coating material to bring down the temperatures at a large Texas data center and a Chandler police training facility.
