Valley Metro and Downtown Phoenix Inc. are hosting a series of live music concerts on the light rail.
It's part of the Ride the Rail initiative to get more people to interact with small businesses in downtown Phoenix during the summertime.
The concerts will take place over three different days on Valley Metro’s B Line and will feature music from the Phoenix Symphony, the Herberger Theater Center and Rosie’s House, a music academy for children.
“To have them come onto the light rail to perform and do something that's pretty cool, that not a lot of the other cities are doing with their public transportation or really at all,” said Skyler Scott, marketing director for Downtown Phoenix Inc.
Scott said people will get to experience a range of acoustic and classical music performances.
“It's bass clarinet, it's the bassoon, it's acoustic guitar,” Scott said. “There's a duet. There's a band called LuMar that will be performing.”
July 16 will feature singing and acoustic guitar by LuMar and a clarinet performance by Silent G from Rosie’s House.
July 24 will feature symphony performances by the Phoenix Symphony.
July 30 will feature acoustic guitar and harmonica from the Herberger Theater Center.
Scott says in addition to the concerts, people can use their specialty transit passes this month to get discounts at participating businesses.
Over the month of July, riders can get a Ride the Rail-themed copper card — the transit pass for Valley Metro.
The music on all days starts at 5 p.m. at the downtown Phoenix hub.
