A federal judge in Phoenix has given initial approval to a class action settlement between a group of DACA recipients and OneAZ Credit Union.
The class consists of about 30 immigrants protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.
The suit filed in 2024 alleges that OneAZ Credit Union had a practice of denying financial products, like auto loans, due to immigration status.
The credit union has agreed to pay a $100,000 settlement, of which about $64,000 will be set aside for class members.
Unclaimed money will go to an organization that gives college scholarships to undocumented students and to a local legal aid group for migrants.
OneAZ Credit Union did not reply to a request for comment.
