State officials have expanded the number of places where Arizonans can bet on sporting events in person.
The Arizona Department of Gaming says it has awarded nine limited event wagering licenses to off-track betting locations in metro Phoenix.
Off-track betting lets restaurant and bar patrons throughout Arizona gamble on horse and dog races that happen elsewhere.
State law also allows these establishments, when licensed, to take bets on other sports onsite only.
The limited licenses are in addition to the 20 sports book licenses split evenly between Native American tribes and professional sports team owners and venues.
