Arizona’s largest school district has appointed its next superintendent.
Members of the Mesa Public Schools governing board unanimously selected Matthew Strom to be their new leader. Strom has been with the district since April of last year and was promoted to associate superintendent this summer.
He has 27 years of experience working in public education. More than 4,000 people including parents, staff and community members responded to a survey about their desired qualifications for the next superintendent. The governing board named three finalists in November.
The district’s current superintendent, Andi Fourlis will be retiring at the end of June. The district serves 56,000 pre-k through 12th grade students enrolled throughout 80 schools.
