An ASU professor creates work involving the intersection of children, dance and theater performance. Now she has published a book on the subject.

Amanda Pintore wrote “Theatre and Dance with Children as Artistic Partners: Devising Performance for the Very Young” centering on artistic collaboration between young children and people like adult artists or educators.

The published work features a methodology for developing theatre and dance performances based on research.

Pintore says her work stems from the influence of the youth.

“So I'm interested in making work that is not necessarily an adaptation of a book, not a written script, but something that's devised completely from the ideas, sounds, and movements of very young children themselves,” she said.

Pintore says her hope is her work makes people think more about early childhood and play. She also will use the book to connect with other people who carry similar interests.
