The president of Buckeye’s Liberty Elementary School District governing board resigned Friday.
The announcement came just days after parents in the district started a petition to recall President Bryan Parks and Vice President Kris Kenyon.
In his resignation letter, which was sent to KJZZ, Parks said in part: "Due to the invasion of my personal privacy, including relentless attacks and threats against myself, family and my business ventures, I must make a difficult decision to step down."
However, a petition volunteer disputes that anyone threatened Parks and said he stepped down because in just one week, they had already collected 40% of the votes necessary to get him recalled.
Community members say educators no longer feel valued or supported by district leadership and as a result, more than 20 teachers and several staff members in other departments have resigned in the last year. Parents say Parks and Kenyon have repeatedly dismissed their concerns.
The effort to recall Kenyon is still in progress.
