Chandler will hold its annual innovation fair this weekend. The free event is designed to showcase students, artists and technology companies.
Volunteers from Intel, Chandler’s largest employer, will coach students and families on how to build tiny robots. Scientists and engineers from Northrop Grumman will host hands-on activities and they’ll launch a model rocket every half hour.
More than 100 exhibitors from Chandler schools and tech companies will showcase how science impacts daily life. All K-12 schools in the city are invited to participate in the innovation fair competition. Six winning teams will receive a $500 prize to be presented to their schools science club or program.
According to a city press release, the fair is “part of the Arizona SciTech Festival, a statewide movement to promote and celebrate science in our daily lives and to earn recognition for Arizona as a science and technology hub.”
The innovation fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park downtown, 178 E. Commonwealth Ave., between Buffalo and Boston streets, along Commonwealth Avenue.
Free parking for the event is available at the Johnathan parking garage (south of Buffalo Street, east of Arizona Avenue), or the Alexander parking garage (north of Boston Street, east of Arizona Avenue).
