The Isaac School District has announced it may close some of its schools at the end of this school year. The district has been under state receivership since January as it faced a multimillion dollar cash deficit.
In a March 18 letter to families, the Phoenix district said it’s moving forward with the intent to close Moya Elementary and PT Coe Elementary. It may also discontinue the Isaac Online Prep Academy for the next school year.
The potential closures are part of a plan to make Isaac financially stable.
Governing Board President Patricia Jimenez told KJZZ the district is gathering more information from the receiver to fully understand the situation.
If it goes through, the district would update its boundaries to accommodate students from the closed campuses and every student would be assigned to a new school.
Public hearings have been scheduled for April 3 and 24.
The district has already sold some properties and eliminated some positions in an attempt to get back on track.
