The University of Arizona announced it is pausing construction of a new biosciences building in Phoenix due to federal funding concerns.
University officials have touted the Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies, or CAMI, as a tool to advance medical research. But now, the university says it must evaluate “all research-intensive university infrastructure needs” because of federal funding uncertainties.
In a statement, COO John Arnold says the university remains committed to advancing research that improves the lives of Arizonans. He also said that fixed costs associated with UA buildings and utilities can't be eliminated and that reductions in research funding will impact all facets of the university’s operations.
The CAMI building in the Phoenix Bioscience Core had been scheduled for completion in 2027.
