Federal cuts are now impacting Arizona State University. President Michael Crow said many federally funded projects at the university are being canceled.

Crow said grant revocation affected almost 80 projects.

“They have the authority to cancel these projects. Grants can be canceled at any moment,” Crow said. “But nonetheless the less impact in the areas where these projects are operating is significant.”

ASU receives millions in federal funding each year, much of which are used for research or project grants, according to the Arizona Board of Regents.

“Essentially all of, or nearly all of our USAID projects have been cancelled in the field. All of those operations were very important undertakings," Crow said.

Other projects have been canceled because of the topic, including vaccine education.

“All of the projects that we have related in association with that have literally been canceled,” Crow said.

Crow also reminded students that protests are allowed as long as they follow university policy and don’t have speech inciting violence.

“We are obviously working to find ways we can have higher rates of innovation and greater impact to the state, the country, to others, to students,” Crow said. “So we are obviously working to accelerate our innovation at all levels.”
