ASU graduates celebrate during Undergraduate Commencement in May 2024 at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe.

For a second year in a row, Arizona State University’s commencement involves a record number of graduates. This year, more than 21,000 students will officially earn their degrees.

ASU President Michael Crow told the graduates at a ceremony held Monday morning that he’s proud of the university.

“At ASU we have now built a different kind of university. A truly democratic university. A truly American university. No one will tell us who we can admit because we will admit every qualified student,” Crow said.

Crow went on to tell graduates that democracy is a fragile thing and it only works when everyone participates.

The university said roughly 7,300 of the new graduates are receiving a master’s degree, Juris Doctorate or Ph.D.
