Parents in Buckeye’s Liberty Elementary School District say they’ve gathered enough signatures to recall a member of the governing board.

Community members have been speaking out for months against the district’s superintendent and board members who they say have created an environment where teachers and staff no longer feel valued or supported.

They started a petition to recall former President Bryan Parks and current Vice President Kris Kenyon. Parks resigned in February, but parent and former board member Paul Jensen said they’ve since collected nearly 3,500 signatures to recall Kenyon.

“We’re hoping for the county recorder to validate the signatures and be able to go to an election and put in somebody that is interested and cares about the children," Jensen said.

He said there have been more than 100 resignations this year, including two principals.

“Each of the principals as they resigned have said that they do not think that the governing board is doing things in the best interest of children and they professionally cannot carry out the wishes of the governing board," Jensen said.

The superintendent has been put on administrative leave. The district’s communications director also resigned and the district has chosen not to replace him.

KJZZ reached out to Kenyon for comment, but he did not respond.
