In its inaugural year in the Big 12 conference, Arizona State University’s athletic department has won the Commissioner’s Cup.
The award is given to the conference program that best combines athletic and academic excellence with community service efforts.
Doug Tammaro, the Sun Devil Athletics senior associate communications director, said they had a strong first year, winning four conference championships.
“We have Big 12 Coach of the Year in JJ Van Niel," Tammaro said. "We have a Big 12 Coach of the Year in Kenny Dillingham. We’ve got a lot of good things going on now. So onto even bigger and better in 2025-26.”
Tammaro said 48% of ASU’s student-athletes made the Dean’s List and 82% of them had a semester or cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Tammaro said they also participated in many community service projects, like handing out water at Pat’s Run and working closely with Phoenix Children's Hospital.
"It was a hard thing for us to leave the Pac-12 because of the tradition, but we could not have landed better," Tammaro said. "The fan bases are fantastic."
