Hundreds of elementary students at an Ahwatukee school will be out of their classrooms for the next few months while their roof is replaced.
This week they will be taking classes online while the Kyrene district determines where the students will be transferred.
Over the weekend, Kyrene de la Sierra sent out a notice to parents that air quality tests showed elevated particulate levels in the school. Even though officials say the levels are not harmful, school leaders decided to close the campus out of an abundance of caution.
This week the students will get their lessons online.
Starting next week, students will be relocated to the Cerritos/Altadena campus, just a few miles away. And preschoolers will go to Kyrene de la Esperanza.
Around 500 students will be affected by the closure, which should last until October after the fall break. The district says it is working on transportation and other logistics.
