As the new school year begins, there are new classes, new friends and new routines. But underneath that excitement can hide struggles that teachers and parents might miss.

Nathaniel Bush is the clinical director with an Arizona-based behavioral health provider. He said that there needs to be an increase of counseling resources and peer support at the schools.

"Students might be struggling at home, and you’ll notice, with children and teens that are struggling at home, they sometimes tend to appear as the students in school that are the class clowns or acting up, and can almost be looked act as a trouble kids in school and end up spending time in detention," he said.

Bush said that parents should look out for behavioral changes, spending time in isolation and loss of interest in daily activities.
