The Paradise Valley Unified School District held a hearing this week for Superintendent Todd Cummings. He requested the hearing after the governing board tried to terminate him. It was held in private on Thursday and Friday.
Cummings was hired in April 2025 and put on leave in October.
In an email to KJZZ, a district spokesperson said the hearing officer will make a recommendation to the board at a later date. The board will then accept, reject or modify that decision during a public session expected in early February.
The governing board began the process for dismissing Cummings in December, adopting a statement of 14 charges against him. The charges included "engaging in disrespectful conduct towards subordinate employees" and "failing to disclose pertinent information on his application for employment."
Cummings had 10 days to request a hearing to challenge the board’s decision or lose his job.
Cummings left his old district in Indiana amid allegations that the students’ grades had been manipulated.
