The Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board is planning to discuss censuring one of its members at next month’s meeting. This come after community calls for his resignation.
Back in December, Board Member Jeremiah Cota, who was appointed to fill a vacancy, posted on X that he attended a controversial party, which has ties to neo-Nazis and white supremacists.
It has led to community backlash, a petition for his resignation, and at Thursday’s meeting several calls for him to step down.
Kristin Roberts is a teacher within the district.
“Since this board member was not elected to this seat, he was appointed by the county superintendent due to a vacancy, he’s never really done the work to win the trust of the community and after all of this I just don’t see how that is possible," Roberts said.
Cota was not present at the meeting, and he did not respond for comment.
