A Scottsdale Unified School District employee has resigned after he was arrested for allegedly transporting undocumented people for profit.
Court documents show that in January, Victor Michael Bobbett was stopped by Tohono O’odham police for moving violations in an area that is commonly used for human smuggling.
Border Patrol agents were called to the traffic stop and after questioning, records show Bobbett admitted he was there to transport four undocumented people in exchange for $3,000 a person.
Bobbett served as the district’s art director. Chief Communications and Information Officer Kristine Harrington said SUSD was aware of the arrest, Bobbett was immediately placed on administrative leave, and he subsequently resigned.
The district is fully cooperating with law enforcement. Harrington said Bobbett started working in for the district in 2018 and all appropriate hiring processes were followed.
"He had a clean background check, fingerprint clearance card and reference checks," Harrington said.
