The Northern Arizona University men’s basketball season came to an end Saturday, with a 73-65 loss to Idaho State in the Big Sky Tournament.
And it’s the end of an era — the last game called by longtime play-by-play man Mitch Strohman.
After more than 30 years as the voice of Lumberjacks football and basketball, Strohman was honored last week at NAU’s final home game. And during the tribute, members of the football team hoisted him into the air, chanting his name.
Strohman was on the call when the basketball team came to Tempe in 2011 and stunned Arizona State University.
"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! With six tenths of a second to go, Stallon Saldivar has hit a three point shot to give the Jacks the lead!" he said.
Strohman, who called his first NAU game in 1991, announced his retirement in January.
