The Gila Bend community will soon regain access to library services after going almost a year without them.

For years, Maricopa County operated a library out of a town-owned facility in Gila Bend.

“The way our intergovernmental agreements often work is that the county funds library operations, and then the building partner funds the maintenance of that facility," said Samantha Mears with the Maricopa County Library District.

The county later moved the library to a building operated by the Gila Bend Unified School District (GBUSD), which offered a larger space.

But in May of 2025, the school district ended its partnership with the county.

"Unfortunately, the school district did come to us and let us know that they weren't able to manage the funds it was taking to cover the cost of keeping the building open that many hours a week," Mears said.

The county has announced a new agreement with the town of Gila Bend, allowing the library to return to its original building. After undergoing some renovations, which will take about six months. the library will once again be available to residents.
