AI plans unclear in Tucson Unified School District after board's tie vote

The Tucson Unified School District Board failed to agree on plans to expand the use of artificial intelligence in city schools during a hearing earlier this week.

Members heard a proposal to expand the use of educational artificial intelligence platforms across TUSD middle and high schools.

But their vote ended in a tie, meaning approved AI resources will stay within high schools only for the time being.

Board member Sadie Shaw voted against the changes and said they didn’t include enough guardrails.
