The Tucson Unified School District plans to hold roundtables to gather input from families and the public as it considers potential school closures.
The district’s governing board approved the community engagement plan at its meeting on Tuesday.
Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo said he wants a packed house for each of the upcoming gatherings in September.
“We want childcare. We want food. And there better be no less than 100 people at each session. This has to be massively publicized. We have to recruit people,” Trujillo said.
Trujillo said the list of schools up for closure won’t be released until October and November, after the district hears from the public.
TUSD has updated the locations of the community roundtables to the following schools:
- Sahuaro High School, 6 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 21.
- Cholla High School, 4 to 6:30 p.m., Sept. 23.
- Catalina High School, 9 to 11:30 a.m., Sept. 26.
