Last month, a group sued Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, accusing him of failing to ensure that only citizens vote. That suit has now been expanded to include all 15 county recorders in Arizona.
The Wednesday filing from the Strong Communities Foundation of Arizona says the law requires recorders to perform maintenance on voter rolls.
The group’s legal team, founded by former Donald Trump adviser Stephen Miller, told a U.S. District Court judge that the recorders are not in compliance.
It wants Judge Susan Bolton to order the recorders to turn over a list of those who signed up to vote using a federal registration form, meaning they didn’t have to provide proof of citizenship.
Gov. Katie Hobbs condemned the group bringing the lawsuit this close to the general election.
“They're trying to undo and upend how we do elections and how Arizonans can have their voices heard," Hobbs said.
The lawsuit solely uses evidence of other states’ purging voter rolls, not Arizona.
