Watch a debate over immigration enforcement, which will be on the Arizona ballot in the form of Proposition 314 this year, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19.
Proposition 314, also called the Secure Border Act, was referred to the ballot by Republican lawmakers. The broad border and immigration legislation was inspired by Texas’ SB 2 and would create a new state law criminalizing crossing Arizona’s border with Mexico outside a legal port of entry. That is already illegal under federal law, but Proposition 314 would give sheriffs, local police and state law enforcement the power to enforce that prohibition.
State Sen. John Kavanagh will argue in favor of the measure, while state Rep. Analise Ortiz will argue against the measure.
