With six weeks to go until Election Day, the fight over the future of abortion access in Arizona is hitting the airwaves.
The Arizona for Abortion Access campaign has far outraised its opposition and says it’s now spending more than $15 million on advertising. Ads will begin airing this week on TV and streaming platforms in Arizona.
The first ad focuses on emergency pregnancy complications.
"Imagine being here, scared and in pain, waiting," the voiceover says. "Waiting because doctors risk prison for helping you. That's the truth about Arizona's abortion ban. It forces women who are miscarrying or having complications to wait until a medical emergency."
Since 2022, Arizona has banned abortions after 15 weeks of gestation, except in some medical emergencies. Proposition 139 would allow abortions until the point of fetal viability — around 24 weeks — with exceptions beyond that when health risks are involved.
The opposition campaign says the measure goes too far and has argued emergency miscarriage care is permissible under the state’s current law.
