A new AARP Arizona poll reveals which way the largest voting bloc in the state — and country — may sway in the upcoming presidential and Senate election.
The poll shows Trump has the advantage with voters 50 or older, though the race is a toss up with seniors 65-plus. In the Senate race, Democrat Ruben Gallego is dead even with Republican Kari Lake among Arizona voters 50-plus.
Jeff Liszt is with Impact Research. He says 17% of Arizona voters in this age group are splitting their ticket.
“And that’s enough to decide the presidential race, it’s enough to decide the Senate race. And while among those ticket splitters 50+ the single most important issue is immigration," Liszt said.
Pollster Bob Ward says another big issue is Social Security.
"And when we zero in on Social Security and ask voters specifically how important Social Security will be in deciding their vote come November, we find that 79% of older Arizona voters say that the issue is at least very important. 45% say it’s extremely important," Ward said.
