Gov. Katie Hobbs has named the officials who will lead the audit of the Motor Vehicle Department policies and procedures to improve the voter registration system.
Hobbs tapped Coconino County Recorder Patty Hansen and former Yuma County Recorder Robyn Stallworth-Pouquette.
MVD data is used by state election officials to verify that voters have what they need to be accurately registered to vote.
Maricopa County election officials found a glitch in the system where hundreds of thousands of voters who got a license before 1996 may have never provided proof of citizenship. The MVD has reportedly worked with the Secretary of State’s Office to correct the issue.
Last month, Hobbs announced a bipartisan audit of the MVD’s procedures to make sure the correction worked. Its results are expected in January.
