A judge has recused himself from presiding over the so-called “fake electors” case in Arizona.

The judge stepped away from the case Tuesday after an email surfaced in which he asked fellow judges to speak out on attacks against Vice President Kamala Harris.

In the email from late August, Maricopa County Judge Bruce Cohen lamented he didn’t speak out when Harris was called a “DEI hire.”

He said he believed white men must speak out against unfair treatment of women and raised a historical lesson from the Holocaust to speak up when people are attacked.

In a court record, Cohen said the original email was a stand for decency and did not reflect personal bias. But he recognized others may view it differently than he intended.

Cohen recused himself before deciding whether to dismiss the case, which will now be assigned to another judge.
