Last year, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office identified about 220,000 voters who had never provided proof of citizenship due to a glitch with the Motor Vehicle Department.
The office is now sending letters to those voters seeking remedy.
The letter says voters have 90 days to provide their proof of citizenship to the Recorder’s Office before they are moved to the federal-only ballot list. After that, they have until Election Day to provide proof to cast the full state ballot.
The state Supreme Court let those voters cast full ballots last year. The issue affects some people who got their driver’s licenses before 1996.
They’re being asked to fill out a Documentary Proof of Citizenship/Voter Update Form and include proof, like naturalization number, copy of birth certificate or passport or Tribal Enrollment card.
The responses can be sent through the post, by email or delivered to the Recorder’s Office in person.
