If you received a ballot by mail for the Congressional District 7 special primary election, Tuesday, July 8, is the last recommended day to try and return that ballot by mail.

Election officials warn that ballots returned by mail after Tuesday may not be delivered by the postal service in time to be counted.

Starting Wednesday, officials instead recommend hand delivering your mail ballot to a drop box or polling place.

You can also cast an in-person ballot at voting centers now through Election Day, Tuesday, July 15.

Voters are choosing their party’s nominees to replace the late Congressman Raul Grijalva, who passed away in March shortly after winning reelection to his southern Arizona district last November.

Former state lawmaker Daniel Hernandez and former Pima County supervisor Adelita Grijalva — the late congressman’s daughter — are considered the frontrunners for the Democratic nomination.

And given the district’s strong Democratic voter registration advantage, the Democratic nominee is widely expected to cruise to victory in the special general election.
