Candidates were chosen by voters in a primary election on Aug. 5, for the staggered Tucson City Council race taking place in November.
More than 138,000 registered voters turned in ballots for primary candidates to represent three of the six wards that make up Tucson’s City Council.
Ward 3 incumbent Democrat Kevin Dahl is leading challenger and current Tucson school board member Sadie Shaw by just over 100 votes as of Wednesday. City officials have said final results for that race won’t be ready for a few days as ballot counting continues.
Ward 3 Republican candidate Janet "JL" Wittenbraker ran unchallenged.
Unofficial results from the city show candidates Selina Barajas and Miranda Shubert leading their three-way Democratic race for Ward 5 and Ward 6. Neither ward had a Republican candidate.
