Democratic candidates vying for Arizona Republican David Schweikert’s seat in Congress signaled during Tuesday's primary debate that they would support impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump if elected to office.
ER doctor and former state legislator Amish Shah, who lost to Schweikert in 2024, said impeachment proceedings would be warranted.
"My biggest issue is that the Trump administration is simply violating the Constitution of the United States and desecrating it," Shah said.
Former TV anchor Marlene Galan-Woods said she wants to see Trump held to account.
"All across the board people are horrified by what they are seeing in this country — the corruption, the trampling of our Constitution," Galan-Woods said.
Community activist Rick McCartney and business founder Jonathan Treble are also running for the 1st Congressional District seat.
The primary election is July 21.
